CVTA Board Member Jeff Burkhardt and Executive Director Andrew Poliakoff joined AAMVAcast to discuss the latest issues in the commercial motor vehicle training sector in an episode published this week.
Jeff and Andrew shared the latest developments on ELDT enforcement arising from CVTA’s outreach to FMCSA.
As noted, FMCSA’s Office of Safety Programs has stated that they will implement an updated auditing and investigations strategy later this summer to improve the enforcement of ELDT’s requirements.
CVTA will continue to work with FMCSA and scrutinize the new enforcement strategy to ensure that students will be protected from bad actors in the training sector.
Speaking on the podcast and describing CVTA’s advocacy on ELDT standards, Jeff said, “We certainly applaud the FMCSA and the Administrator in terms of really engaging with us. They heard us, and there has been a tremendous amount of traction.”
Andrew shared how important improved ELDT enforcement will be for students, saying, “At the end of the day, it’s [about] the students. It’s the people who want to make this a career and have their lives changed positively by this career.”
