The Commercial Vehicle Training Association (CVTA) is excited to spotlight an upcoming event hosted by member school New England Tractor Trailer Training School (NETTTS): the 2025 NETTTS Student Driving Competition on May 17th in Somers, Connecticut.
Designed to challenge and celebrate the next generation of professional drivers, this multi-state championship will bring together top CDL students from NETTTS campuses in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Students from all four campuses will compete in a variety of real-world driving tasks, including precision backing maneuvers, pre-trip inspections, and professional readiness exercises. The event emphasizes both technical skill and industry knowledge, while also promoting the value of safety and professionalism in the trucking workforce. Participants will not only represent their schools but also their states—Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire—making this a true regional showcase of emerging talent in commercial driving.
In addition to the competition, attendees will have the chance to connect with trucking industry leaders, local officials, recruiters, and other professionals. NETTTS Vice President of Academic Affairs, Mike Lanouette, shared his enthusiasm for the event, noting its role in motivating students and spotlighting their hard work. With prizes, guest speakers, and potential job opportunities on the line, the 2025 Student Driving Competition serves as both a celebration and a launchpad for the future of the transportation industry.
The NETTS competition kicks off at 9:00 a.m., with an awards ceremony scheduled for 1:15 p.m.
