In a recent press release, USDOT announced that Vinn White has assumed the role of Deputy Administrator at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Sue Lawless previously occupied the role of Acting Deputy Administrator and will return to her position as Executive Director & Chief Safety Officer.
“It is an honor to take on this role, and I thank Secretary Buttigieg for his trust and confidence in my ability to lead the important work of FMCSA,” said White. “Our agency is focused on enhancing safety for all roadway users, and I am committed to working with safety partners across the commercial motor vehicle industry to get this work done.”
With a transportation career spanning over 15 years, White notably served as Acting Assistant Secretary of Transportation for Policy and Deputy Assistant Secretary, where he was the chief architect for USDOT’s 30-Year Transportation plan, Beyond Traffic.
White also currently serves as the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Acting Chief Artificial Intelligence (AI) Officer, where he oversees implementation of White House Executive Order 14110 to advance and govern the development and use of AI in accordance with the Administration’s guiding principles and priorities.
CVTA staff have interacted with Mr. White at a number of different events, most recently at a Task Force Movement meeting at the White House EEOB and look forward to working with White at the helm of the agency.
To that effect, Deputy Administrator White will attend CVTA’s Board of Directors meeting in Washington in August to discuss FMCSA’s priorities and to engage with the truck driver training community.
CVTA thanks Sue Lawless for her support and efforts during her tenure as Acting Deputy Administrator and warmly welcomes Vinn White into the new role of Deputy Administrator.
