Donald Trump has announced he will nominate former Member of Congress Sean Duffy for Secretary of Transportation.
Congressman Duffy represented Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District in Congress from 2011 to 2019. In that role, he served on the Financial Services Committee, the Budget Committee, and the Joint Economic Committee.
During his time in Congress, Duffy was a leading supporter of policies that supported expansion of the American economy and greater investments in the trucking industry. Congressman Duffy voted for the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, legislation that reduced business taxes and positioned industry-leading trucking companies to invest in their drivers and operations.
As a result, trucking companies increased driver pay and invested more funding in the purchase of new trucking equipment with modern safety technologies. Duffy also co-sponsored legislation passed by Congress that relaxed regulatory requirements for commercial drivers delivering heating fuels during emergency shortages.
As Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation, Duffy would oversee the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s ongoing enforcement of critical standards governing the training of entry-level truck drivers (ELDT). These standards are advancing safety on our nation’s roadways and are poised to further prevent bad actors from harming the trucking industry.
“CVTA is a strong supporter of ELDT, and we look forward to working with Mr. Duffy to build upon FMCSA’s ELDT enforcement,” said CVTA Chairman, Danny Bradford. “This will give new drivers entering the industry continued access to effective training that prepares them for successful careers on the road.”
CVTA looks forward to working with Mr. Duffy in this role and will continue to engage with U.S. DOT to ensure the voices of CVTA’s national membership are heard by all policymakers involved in regulating the trucking industry.
