Redmond, the President and CEO of American Truck Training, recently joined Task Force Movement as a Senior Advisor. Task Force Movement is an expansive group of stakeholders with the mission to quickly operationalize solutions that create safe and responsible career pathways for the military-connected community, including transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses.
The group also includes Werner Enterprises, a leading motor carrier routinely recognized for their commitment to recruiting, hiring, and retaining veterans in trucking careers.
Redmond joined the group to utilize his experience in the trucking industry to connect veterans to family-sustaining careers behind the wheel. In June, Redmond was invited to join a briefing with a group of trucking industry stakeholders at the White House to strategize about how to help veterans find their next career after proudly serving our country.
Hearing about the number of military veterans who return home without job opportunities motivated Redmond to jump into action.
“Literally, I had a physical reaction to 178,000 of our wonderful service members being unemployed as they transition out of the military. That should not happen and that’s not going to happen as long as I’m alive,” Redmond told The Oklahoma News Report. “I’m going to do whatever I can within my power to try to reduce that number down to zero.”
Only one-in-four military veterans has a civilian job lined up before they leave the military, according to the Pew Research Center. Nearly one-in-three veterans say they had trouble paying their bills in their first few years after leaving the military.
This is not the first time that Redmond, who serves on CVTA’s Board of Directors, has stepped up to help people in need in the Oklahoma City community.
In December 2022, Redmond and Roadmaster Driver’s School, another excellent CVTA member, jumped into action to help students who had their truck driver training cut off when another trucking school in Oklahoma City abruptly closed.
Redmond has also advocated for additional funding options for students, including when he testified before the House Committee on Ways and Means last fall.
