Werner Receives Pro Patria Award, is a Finalist for Freedom Award

Werner Enterprises was recently selected as the only large public business in Nebraska to receive the 2012 Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Pro Patria Award.

The Pro Patria Award, the highest recognition given by the state EGSR committee, is given annually to Nebraska employers who have provided exceptional support to the United States’ national defense through leadership practices and personnel policies for employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.

As one of three employers in the State of Nebraska to receive the Pro Patria Award in 2012, Werner Enterprises is qualified for the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, which is a national ESGR recognition presented in Washington, D.C., to 15 employers. The Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the Department of Defense to employers for their exceptional support of their Guard and Reserve employees.

Freedom Award nominations come directly from Guard and Reserve members or family members acting on their behalf. Bret Willard, senior manager of Driver Recruiting Resources and a 20-year Nebraska Naval Reserve member, nominated Werner for the award, which received more than 3,000 nominations nationwide. Of those nominations, 133 semifinalists were chosen, with
Werner Enterprises being one of three Nebraska employer semifinalists. The two other Nebraska employers are Southeast Community College in Lincoln and 92 West in Omaha. Thirty finalists will be chosen next month and 15 winners will be announced early summer.
