Scammer Alert - August 26, 2011 Second of the Day

Amber with USA Truck called Brad Ball to let us know that there is a gentleman that is calling schools around the country and asking for names and phone numbers of students looking for employment.  He is promising them a job, all they have to do is wire him money so he can get them into orientation.

So far he goes by either James Hayes or Joe Tucker.

Amber said that USA Truck is calling as many schools as possible, Brad just wanted to make sure that we were informed.

Remember to NEVER give out student information to anyone.  Let’s protect our schools

From: Kristine Durham, Western Truck School

Today a gentleman by the name of James Hays of "National Transportation" called. His phone number is 404-686-6139. He says he is looking for 4 drivers immediately. Due to his pushy attitude, I started to ask questions and found out he is based out of Georgia. According to him an orientation will be held in Phoenix. Drivers will drive all 48 states. They will be out 14 and home for 4 paying $400.00 a week and then .28 a mile. Requirements are over 21, no more than 8 points, DUI over 3 years and felony has to be over 5 years.

None of the information checks out of course. In fact, if you call the number, you get a recording that "the patient is currently out of the room!" Just alerting you to another scammer out there.

From Roger Rollins, Great Lakes  Truck Driving School:

One of my reps in the office took this call the other day. I knew Marten did not accept grads so I called Marten to verify that it was not them and they had no idea who this person was posing as a Marten recruiter. This is the info the guy gave us, this is the email that one of my employees sent me, I copied and pasted it for you:

"I received a call from Marten Transport this morning, looking for drivers (both new graduates and experienced).

They are looking for 4 drivers immediately and 14 more within the next 2 weeks.  Here are the particulars...

Contact:  Jim Snow...
Training period & pay:  4 weeks @ $400/week

DUI:  over 3 years old

Carriers Alerted to Aggressive Marketing Attempts to Sell Supervisory Training for Drug and Alcohol Testing Requirements

Notice to Carriers:

In recent weeks, we have received numerous inquiries regarding companies using aggressive marketing tactics to sell supervisor training to employers who may be subject to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s drug and alcohol testing requirements. Please note that the FMCSA is not familiar with these companies nor the training they are offering.

49 CFR §382.603 requires supervisors of CDL drivers to take 60 minutes of training on the symptoms of alcohol abuse and another 60 minutes of training on the symptoms of controlled substances use. The purpose is to qualify supervisors for determining when reasonable suspicion testing is needed.

From Gary Pressley
@ Heavy Metal Truck Training

I just received one of those ‘scam calls’ (again).  It was a guy calling himself Robert Evans with USA Trucking... telephone number 205-213-3847.  When I started asking him too many ‘insightful’ questions, he hung-up.

Scammer Alert! 6/23/2011

From Karen Crabb
@ Schneider National

I just was alerted by one of our field recruiters that there is a scam artist in the NE states right now representing himself as a Schneider associate. He is going to the Trucking Academies & asking for the director, introducing himself as “Greg” or “Gary Graham” from Schneider National. He is asking for a list of the students names & phone numbers, and saying we are offering a straight into orientation opportunity from truck training school for a fee of $500! Frank said that even after one school contacted him on “Greg” approaching the school; he received a call from another school saying that “Gary Graham“ was offering this school the same thing. He even left a contact phone of 205-381-3382. If you hear of anything from any of your applicants, please take seriously and get as much information as you can and let your leader know include Frank also

CVTA strongly suggest you to call Karen Crabb at 920-592-6009, if you've been contacted by this scammer.

Scammer Alert! 6/14/2011

From Chuck Wirth, American Institute of Technology

An employee from AIT had a message from a Chris Johnson claiming to work for TransAm and needing drivers.  He was very rude on the phone. the employee googled his phone number and discovered that he was a scammer. The number he left was 205-381-3382. Please see the link below of others reporting this caller using a different name and carrier, but the same phone number.

http://blog.bumper2bumpertruckbook.com/?p=521

From Dean Cochran
Director of Driver Recruiting
TransAm Trucking, Inc.

A school in TN just received a phone call claiming to be a TransAm Recruiter in need of students, he needed them to apply blind by calling him direct. He left a phone number of
205-381-3382 claims his name is Chris Johnson. Sounds like the scammers are at it again.  Please don't have your students call him and don't give his name and number to your students, I'm sure he will want them to wire money to him.

Beware the scammers are out there!!!!!

Thanks for the heads up!

Scammer Alert! 6/1/2011

From Roadmaster:

We received a call at approximately 12:00 noon from a guy who said his name was Chuck Davis. He claimed he was the Director of Driver Service for Con Way. Said he was looking for 3 drivers to fill empty seats. His phone is 205-381-3382 also said felony over 5 years ok, DUI over 3 years ok pay scale of $425 per week for 6 weeks after .28 cents a mile. This for some reason didn't sit well so I contacted Con Way to verify Mr. Davis was who he claimed to be. After speaking to Con Way, they informed me that no such employee existed. I had one of our employees to call Mr. Davis looking for one of these positions he was told that he needed to supply a phone # where Davis could call him back.

Beware the scammers are out there!
